Unplugged takls with BMA in Varna
16 July 2025

The first informal meeting of BMA in Varna went exactly as we envisioned it – no stage, no protocol, but with music, conversation, and genuine meaning.

We shared more about what the Bulgarian Music Association does and why it is worth paying attention to. Most importantly, we listened to what matters to you. We spoke openly about the management of copyright and related rights, about tariffs, and about the lack of information and clarity. We touched on the difficulties faced by independent artists – the fact that their professional experience is not recognized, that they have no one to represent them, and that managers are lacking. You shared the need for more frequent regional meetings, for support, transparency, and institutional representation.

We discussed ideas, specific obstacles in the legislation, what can be done, and how artists themselves can get involved.

We thank everyone who came and made this meeting so meaningful. We continue forward and look forward to seeing you at the next one in Burgas on July 25. Details coming soon.

You can listen to the playlist with your music, which we enjoyed during the meetings HERE

Stage Map | BG is the result of the two-year project for wide-ranging mapping of the music sector in the country, which the BMA launched in 2020 as part of its sectoral initiatives. The aim of the project is to improve information provision and support the development of effective cultural policies and financing mechanisms.

The application is open to all stage spaces in Bulgaria, offering easy and quick access to an extensive array of data. This enables artists-performers to plan their activities without wasting time on additional research, making the process more efficient and easy.

We believe that this product will be of great benefit not only to the music sector, but also to all other performing arts, helping to facilitate their integration and development in the cultural scene of Bulgaria.
