Studentski dom (Student house)
18 November 2024

The joint initiative of BMA and the National Student House (NSH) “Stage – new music” offers BMA members the opportunity to organize concerts and musical events in the renovated hall of the NSH in the central part of Sofia. The aim is to establish this location as an independent alternative scene where musicians can meet their audience.

The project to renovate the hall was completed in 2022, and so far over 30 concerts have been held there, which have set the stage for new creative initiatives and collaborations in the heart of Sofia.

At the end of 2024, the BMA won a project under the Sofia’s Municipality Program for Culture, entitled “Stage – New Music”, within which we will realize 12 concerts of young, emerging talents. The project will contribute to the long-term development of the independent music scene in Bulgaria, by providing young performers not only a platform for performance, but also the necessary skills for a successful career. The initiative meets the strategic priorities for the development of the cultural sector and the stimulation of young artists in Sofia, by providing a more accessible and sustainable model for their support.

As part of the project, we also prepared a “Handbook for the Young Musician: Organizing, Promoting and Building an Audience”, available in Bulgarian here:

Stage Map | BG is the result of the two-year project for wide-ranging mapping of the music sector in the country, which the BMA launched in 2020 as part of its sectoral initiatives. The aim of the project is to improve information provision and support the development of effective cultural policies and financing mechanisms.

The application is open to all stage spaces in Bulgaria, offering easy and quick access to an extensive array of data. This enables artists-performers to plan their activities without wasting time on additional research, making the process more efficient and easy.

We believe that this product will be of great benefit not only to the music sector, but also to all other performing arts, helping to facilitate their integration and development in the cultural scene of Bulgaria.
