The Bulgarian Music Association (BMA) took an active part in the 31st edition of WOMEX – The World Music Expo, which took place from 22 to 26 October 2025 in Tampere, Finland – one of the most significant global events for music, culture and creative industries.
This year, Bulgaria was again represented with its own stand and delegates who promoted the Bulgarian music scene, artists and festivals among over 2,800 professionals from more than 100 countries.
Within the framework of the exhibition, the BMA also organized a special reception that brought together representatives of Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine and Slovenia. The event was attended with great interest and gathered dozens of international guests who came to get acquainted with the new names and initiatives from Southeastern Europe. An emotional highlight of the program was the a cappella performance of a Bulgarian folk song by Ana Danchev, which charmed the audience and drew attention to the rich vocal tradition of Bulgaria.
In addition, the Vice President of the Bulgarian Music Association and co-organizer of the SoAlive Music Conference – Mila Georgieva, participated in the panel “South East Europe: From ‘Emerging’ to Essential”, part of the WOMEX conference program. The panel, organized by Ruth Koleva, was dedicated to the role of South East Europe in the European music ecosystem and emphasized the need for the region to be recognized as a cultural power with its own infrastructure and potential for international export. Mirko Burazer (We Move Music Croatia / SHIP) and Codruta Vulcu (ARTmania, Romania) also took part in the discussion.
Another important highlight of the BMA’s participation was the presentation of the largest digital catalog to date, including 28 music projects and 7 festivals – members of the association, which create in the field of world, ethno and folk fusion music. The catalog is available online HERE and is distributed during WOMEX via QR code among the delegates and partners of the event.
The participation of the Bulgarian Music Association in WOMEX 2025 once again confirmed the role of our country as an active and significant participant in the European and global music ecosystem, and demonstrated the efforts and goals of the BMA to expand the support and positioning of various genres internationally.
The international activity of the BMA is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
